When I was growing up a common phrase was "you don't want to be a jack-of-all trades and a master of none." But I wanted to do it all -- run, jump, swim, baseball, football, soccor, etc.  And when I was in film school I wanted to produce, direct, write, act, write, shoot, etc.

And so for the last 20 years I've been able to follow that creative dream and earn a living while also waiting until the technology finally caught up with the creative multi-taskers. So now I am a Emmy winner who is a producer/director/writer/cameraman/photographer/editor for River Run Productions (www.RiverRun.tv). I continue to write screenplays, blog and occasionally speak and teach.

2010 News
Since January of 2007 Scott has been a producer and partner with River Run Productions (www.RiverRun.tv). Recent projects include videos for Blue Bunny Ice Cream, Beam/Electrolux, Lost Island Water Park, Reformed Theological Seminary, and camera support for national TV programs, three short films, and shoots in New York, Charlotte, and San Francisco as well as an International shoot in San Paulo, Rio de Janerio & the Amazon River region of Brazil.
Scott's cameras have now taken him to all 50 United States and 20 countries.

He is currently writing two new feature film scripts on spec and in 2008 his blog Screenwriting from Iowa; or wherever you live outside L.A. (screenwritingfromiowa.wordpress.com) received a Regional Emmy in Minneapolis. (It was the first screenwriting blog to ever win an Emmy.) He won a second Emmy (for lighting) in 2009.

Recently, the official blog for Tom Cruise gave a shout out to Screenwriting from Iowa;
"For a more off-beat look at writing, the Screenwriting from Iowa blog provides screenwriters with a slightly removed take from the Hollywood norm. Scott Smith blogs about how people outside of Los Angeles can have their stories told and sold for production in TInselTown. It's inspiring for those of us around the world who aspire to Hollywood magic without having to live in Hollywood itself."
